Comment: Though I didn't know Robert in country, we were assigned to Ft Campbell at the same time.
I had already had an assignment to the Sinai Desert and wanted to go back for a second tour as the First Sergeant to complete the requirements for a short tour. Fortunately or unfortunately, Robert got the assignment and was sent to the Sinai Desert in 85 for a 6 month tour with the Multinational Forces and Observers, keeping the Egyptians and Israelies apart.
In December 85, the airplane that he was on coming back here to Ft Campbell blew up over Gander New Foundland. As of yet, not blame has been assigned to this mystery. At Ft Campbell, there is a park with a Canadian Maple tree planted for each soldier that lost their life on the plane.
