Comment: For my short time in the 71st, Sgt Lackey stood out as the most memorable and one of the few I remember to this day. Always the guy who knew what was going on and treated all with respect. Gone but not forgotten and missed.

Comment: I’m sorry Sarge, I didn’t know of your tenuous situation. I would have attempted a trip to visit you. He was, and will always be “The Grand Old Rattler” being the longest serving member of our unit. An original member of the 501st Avn. Battalion the predisor of the 71st AHC. I am honored to have served with Sarge 1967- 1968 during my tour in our great unit.
He made me proud accepting one of my plaques in 2008 a small thing for such a respected and loyal member of our unit. Rest in Peace! Thank you for your loyal friendship Sarge! I loved our time together talking about the older days and all your experience’s.

Comment: Our beloved platoon sergeant is gone. He was our “Mother Hen” in Vietnam and to this day, always looking out for “His Boys”. He was loved and he was told this often by many of us. He knew it was true. His smiling face will be missed at our reunions. Rest In Peace brother!
