Comment: My father made me the man that I am today. Growing up, I never fully understood what it meant to go to combat and what impact it had on shaping a person. I did know that my father was my hero and I wanted to be just like him. I thought to myself, "If he can fly this long and still love it, there must be something to it." His passion for life and love of flying motivated me from a young age.
My father was so proud when I enlisted in 2004. He didn't want me to go to combat, but he knew I made up my mind to see it for myself and like all Robertsons, I can be pretty stubborn. When I got back from my first tour, so much more made sense to me. There were things from Vietnam he never shared with me that we could now talk about. Combat, in a round about way, brought us closer together.
My father didn't really show a softer side too much, but I swear, when I told him I was going to flight school he got choked up, haha. I knew that he could not be prouder. He didn't realize how sick he was until a few weeks before passing. He literally flew until the last minute and I think that's the way he wanted it. While he was in the hospital he joked with me about "passing the torch" to me. I love you dad, and I won't let you down.

Comment: I was extremely saddened to learn of Rex's death. He and I were in flight school together and arrived at the 71st at the same time. He was a great pilot, who love the "high overhead approach", He and I flew together on many occasions, especially during the SF missions in DaNang. Ron Seabolt and I tried to find him on many occasions, but we were unsuccessful. I left messages, but received no response. He was one of the best, and I shall miss him. May God bless him and his family.
