Comment: Al and I flew together for about 6 months or more. I was with him on the firefly mission when he took a round in the knee. I carried him into the MASH to get patched up and insisted the doctors that were there work on him immediately, or there were going to be a lot more casualties.
Al was the kind of guy who always laughed about everything. He could be very serious at times and was the only gunner in the 1st platoon that volunteered to fly with me after I was kicked out of the second platoon. Dad (SGT) Lackey thought Al, who was an ideal soldier would help straighten me out. When I stopped flying with Al he was almost as bad as I was, but we crewed good ships in the field. Go figure.
